Did you ever ask yourself what would have happened if David went to fight Goliath, with Saul's armor on??????
When David said that he would go and fight the giant, Saul refused at first. But when he insisted, he gave him his own armor.
David put them on, but soon realized that he was not comfortable and the scripture says; "I cannot go in these"....... We know what happens next - David went without the armor and defeated the giant.
This passage made me realize how much we as parents tend to do like Saul did with David, with our children. Whenever a situation arise, when there is an important decision to make, or simply when our children are going through a different stage in their life, we give them "our armor" , to protect, equip or help them. But we don't realize that "our armor" is a handicap instead of a help!
We do have an important role to play in our children’s lives, but let us not forget that the most important of all is to pray for them and be tuned to God's voice in what He has in storefor them. He knows what is best for our children and He has already equipped them for all the challenges they'll meet, and for all the decisions they will need to take on their own.
Whatever the age of our children, let us stop 'equipping' them. We are here to guide them to God, not act as if we are God in their lives and try to “protect” them.
Let us ask for wisdom to be able to be the mother or father He wants us to be. Our children's future is in God's loving hands, and He is the only one who knows what is best for them. Our Father in heaven has a plan for our kids, and He has already equipped them with what they need to face any situation ahead.
So, whatever we are facing right now, let us draw near to Him, let us call upon His name and lift our kids to Him. Let us put our trust in God, and not in our way of doing things.
