“Journey of Light: An Advent Calendar of Hope, Love, and Peace” Week 2.

Updated: Dec 2, 2024

Humility

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” — Micah 6:8

During this second week of Advent, we reflect on the theme of humility, remembering that the birth of Jesus was a humble event. The King of the universe entered the world not in grandeur, but in a humble manger. This calls us to examine our hearts and live humbly, letting go of pride and self-centeredness.

Daily Reflection

This week, we focus on the humility of Christ and how we can reflect that humility in our own lives. Humility isn’t about thinking less of ourselves; it’s about thinking of ourselves less.

  • Day 6: Jesus’ humble birth in a stable challenges us to surrender our expectations (Philippians 2:5-8).

Reflection: Jesus humbled Himself to save us.

Action: How can you practice humility this week?

  • Day 7: True greatness comes through service (Matthew 23:11-12).

Reflection: Greatness in God’s Kingdom is about serving others.

Action: Today, do something to help someone in your family or community.

  • Day 8: Walking humbly with God means trusting Him fully, no matter our circumstances (Micah 6:8).

Reflection: Our walk with God requires humility.

Action: Spend some time in nature reflecting on the greatness of God.

  • Day 9: Be humble before God in prayer (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Reflection: Humble yourself before God in prayer.

Dedicate time to pray for your loved ones and the world.

  • Day 10: Childlike Faith (Matthew 18:4).

Reflection: Embrace humility like a child.

Action: Reflect on how childlike trust and faith can strengthen your relationship with God.

As we reflect on these themes, we are reminded that humility allows us to grow closer to God and live more in agreement with His will.

Worship Song Reflection: “Humble King” by Brenton Brown

“Oh kneel me down again, Here at Your feet

Show me how much You love humility…”

This song brings us into the presence of the humble King, who laid aside His glory to serve us. As we meditate on the words, we are reminded that Jesus’ humility is not weakness but strength in surrender. He chose to come not as a conquering ruler but as a servant to save us. This week, let’s reflect on how we can serve others with the same heart of humility.

Call to Action: Walking Humbly

1. Serve Someone Unexpected: Perform a small, selfless act for someone without expecting anything in return.

2. Reflect on Your Heart: Spend time journaling about areas where pride may be keeping you from walking humbly with God.

3. Pray for Humility: Ask God to give you a heart of humility, seeking His will above your own.

A Prayer for the Week:

Lord Jesus, thank You for showing us the ultimate example of humility. Help me to walk in Your footsteps, choosing humility in every situation. May I serve others selflessly, knowing that through humility, Your glory shines brightest. Amen.

As we continue our Advent journey, let’s embrace humility and follow the example of Jesus.

With love,

Emmanuella
