Hello friends!

Let’s first define Lent.
Lent is a season in the Christian calendar leading up to Easter, observed through fasting, prayer, and reflection. It’s a time to prepare our hearts to celebrate Christ's resurrection by surrendering what distracts us from God.
As I prepared this blog post, one thought came to mind: What am I letting go of this Lent season? While we may spend time before Easter in various ways, I believe this season is a good one for reflecting on letting go of more of ourselves and allowing more space for God.
But what does letting go really mean? In addition to fasting, what else should we let go of?
The idea of "letting go" is not just about fasting from food or drink but also about releasing the weight of habits, mindsets, and attitudes that no longer serve us. It's about releasing what holds us back from fully embracing God’s presence in our lives.
Letting go can look different for each of us. For some, it might mean releasing negative thought patterns or unforgiveness. For others, it might be surrendering attachments to material things that distract from our deeper purpose. But above all, it’s about creating space for God to work in our lives more fully.
As we fast from the things that preoccupy us, we create room for God’s voice, His guidance, His peace, and more of His Holy Spirit.

What to Let Go Of:
Release Negative Thoughts and Fear
Many of us carry anxiety, fear, or worries about the future. But these emotions can cloud our connection with God and prevent us from experiencing the fullness of His peace. This Lent, consider letting go of the constant cycle of fear and replacing it with trust in God’s plan for you.
Philippians 4:6-7"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Release Unforgiveness
Forgiving those who have hurt us can be one of the most challenging things to do. Grudges, however, only weigh us down and keep us stuck in our past. The act of forgiving can be tough, but this Lent, let’s ask God for the strength to let go of anger, bitterness, and resentment and embrace the freedom that comes from forgiveness.
Matthew 6:14-15"For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."
Surrender Materialism and Distractions
In our modern world, it’s easy to become distracted by the pursuit of success, possessions, or entertainment. We often fill our lives with things, people, or experiences that distract us from what truly matters. This Lent, consider simplifying your life and getting rid of clutter. Give yourself the gift of time, space, and reflection.
Matthew 6:19-21"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Surrender Self-Centeredness
Lent is also a time for self-examination. Are we focusing too much on our own needs, desires, and plans? Are we neglecting the needs of others around us? During this season, consider letting go of selfishness and opening your heart to serving others.
Philippians 2:3-4"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others."
Surrender Control and Trust God’s Will
Sometimes, the hardest thing to let go of is our desire for control. We want to know the outcome, plan every detail, and ensure everything goes our way. As we surrender our will to God, we can trust that He knows what is best for us and that He has a plan. This Lent, let go of the need to control everything and instead place your trust in God’s perfect timing.
Proverbs 3:5- 6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
How to Let Go:
Prayer and Meditation
Set aside time each day to sit quietly in God’s presence. Ask Him to show you the areas of your life where you need to let go. Meditate on His Word, and listen for His gentle voice guiding you.
Practice Fasting
Fasting is not just about giving up food; it can involve giving up anything that takes your focus off of God.
Journalling
Writing down your reflections can help you process what you are letting go of and your emotional or spiritual journey. Journaling can also be a way to track how God is working in your life during this season.
Serve Others
Consider serving others during this season, whether it’s through acts of kindness, volunteering, or simply being present for those in need. Serving others can shift your focus away from yourself and open your heart to God’s love.
Making Room for God:
The goal of letting go isn't deprivation but rather creating more room for God in our lives. The act of letting go is a step toward deeper intimacy with God. It’s a choice to make room for Him to move into our lives in new and profound ways.
John 3:30: "He must become greater; I must become less."
May this Lent be a time of renewal, a time to let go of what holds us back and make space for God to work in our hearts. As we surrender ourselves to Him, may we experience the freedom and transformation only He can provide.
I wish everyone a blessed Lenten season!
Greetings,
Emmanuella
